Hey friends, welcome back to the Mr. Pen blog! I'm Amy, and I'm so glad you're here.
Have you ever felt stuck in your prayer life—like you want to connect with God but aren’t sure what to say or how to stay consistent? You’re not alone. Whether your prayers feel awkward, short, or not “spiritual enough,” I want you to know this: prayer isn't about perfection. It’s about presence, honesty, and connection with the One who loves you most.
Today, I want to share how I’ve been growing in this area, some simple prayers you can start with, and practical tools that have helped me stay rooted—even on the busiest of days.
✨ What If Your Prayers Aren’t “Perfect”?
Here’s some good news: God isn’t looking for perfect words. He just wants your heart.
So many of us overcomplicate prayer. We think it has to be poetic, long, or super deep to “count.” And when we don’t feel a spiritual rush, we start doubting ourselves.
But prayer is simply a conversation.
It's about showing up honestly—whether you have one word or a thousand.
The more I’ve learned to talk to God openly—about stress, gratitude, questions—the more natural it’s become. He doesn’t need fancy phrases. He just wants you.
🌙 My Evening Prayer Practice
One thing that’s helped me stay grounded lately is reading Psalm 139 every night before bed. What started as a way to quiet my mind has become something deeply meaningful.
"You have searched me, Lord, and you know me..." — Psalm 139:1
Even when my day feels chaotic, this psalm reminds me: God sees me. He knows me. He hasn’t left me. Sometimes I don’t have anything else to say, so I just read it out loud and sit in His presence. It’s been a gentle, peaceful way to close the day.
🖊️ Tools That Help Me Stay Consistent
I’ve also found that having practical tools nearby keeps prayer front and center in my daily life. Here are some favorites from Mr. Pen that make a big difference:
- Highlighters & Pens – I mark verses that stand out, or jot down thoughts in the margins of my Bible.
- Sticky Notes & Memory Cards – I write simple prayers or Scripture on these and place them on my mirror, planner, or desk.
- Prayer Journal – Writing out prayers has helped me focus and see how God has answered over time.
These visual cues are small but powerful—they invite me to pause, reflect, and talk to God, even just for a moment.
🙏 Simple Prayers for Everyday Moments
If you’re not sure what to pray, start with these. They’re short, heartfelt, and real—perfect for everyday life.
- “Lord, give me peace today.”
- “Thank You for this moment.”
- “Help me love like You do.”
- “I don’t have the words, but I know You hear me.”
- “Draw me close, even when I feel far away.”
You can write these in your journal, repeat them during the day, or use them as inspiration to create your own.
💡 How to Build a Consistent Prayer Life
Staying consistent doesn't mean praying for hours a day. It's about showing up regularly. Here are some tips that help me:
1. Set a Time and Place
Even just 5 minutes in the morning or before bed can become a powerful habit.
2. Pray Scripture
The Psalms are filled with honest, raw prayers. Psalm 139 has been a go-to for me lately.
3. Write It Down
Keep a journal, notebook, or sticky note handy. Mr. Pen tools make it easy to keep your prayers and Scripture visible.
4. Pair Prayer with Daily Life
Pray while walking, driving, or doing dishes. Prayer doesn’t have to be formal—God hears it all.
🌱 Keep Showing Up
My prayer life still has room to grow—and that’s okay. It’s not perfect, but it’s real. And the more I show up, the more natural it becomes.
Friend, you’re not alone. If you’re trying to build a more consistent prayer life, I encourage you to start small, stay honest, and keep showing up. You don’t need the “right” words—just a willing heart.
If this encouraged you, consider sharing it with someone who’s on a similar journey.
