How to Create a Personalized Vision and Prayer Board

How to Create a Personalized Vision and Prayer Board

Hey everyone! Welcome back to the Mr. Pen channel—I'm so glad you're here. 💛 Today’s post is a little more personal, but it's something truly close to my heart. We’re diving into vision boards, goal boards, and prayer boards—but more specifically, I’ll be sharing my own board and the meaning behind it.

This year, I felt the Lord inviting me to slow down and abide in Him. So instead of creating a board filled with goals to chase or boxes to check off, I made one centered entirely around spiritual growth, rooted in the fruit of the Spirit, and grounded in the word "abide."

This board isn’t about what I want to achieve—it’s about who I want to become. A woman deeply connected to the Father. A woman whose life bears fruit and pleases God, simply because she chooses to stay close to Him.

What Kind of Board Is This?

Let’s start with the basics. What’s the difference between a vision board, a goal board, and a prayer board?

  • Vision Board: A collage of images, words, or scriptures that reflect the life you’re dreaming of or praying for. It can be spiritual, personal, or practical—something to keep you inspired and hopeful.

  • Goal Board: More action-oriented, this type outlines objectives, milestones, and habits you want to build. It's great for tracking your progress.

  • Prayer Board: Reflective and intimate, filled with names of people you’re praying for, scriptures you’re clinging to, and burdens you’re laying before God.

Now, here’s the beautiful part—your board doesn’t have to fit perfectly into just one category. Mine, for example, is a mix. I’d describe it as a spiritual formation board. It’s not about achieving something outward—it’s about growing inward.

The Heart Behind My Board

Instead of hustle and striving, this year I’m focusing on surrender and abiding. I filled my board with:

  • Bible verses

  • The fruit of the Spirit

  • A personal prayer I wrote

  • The word “Abide” in the center as a daily reminder

This board serves as a sacred space—a place where vision, surrender, and spiritual intention come together. It’s not a project; it’s a spiritual practice.

Before I created it, I sat with the Lord and asked, “What are You forming in me this season?” The answer became my board.

How I Use My Spiritual Board

Creating the board is just the beginning. Here's how I incorporate it into my daily walk with Jesus:

  1. Put It Where You’ll See It Daily
Mine hangs in my room—so I see it every morning and night. It gently pulls my heart back to Him throughout the day.

  2. Use It as a Prayer Prompt
I sit with my Bible and glance at the board, praying through each fruit of the Spirit:
“Lord, grow patience in me. Help me to love like You. Teach me self-control.”

  3. Let It Center You
When life feels chaotic or discouraging, it reminds me of what truly matters—not performance or perfection, but abiding.

  4. Reflect Monthly
I journal once a month, asking:
“Where have I grown? Where do I still need to surrender?”
It’s amazing to see God’s hand over time.

  5. Stay Open to Change
As the year goes on, God might shift your focus. That’s okay. Be willing to adjust your board and let Him lead you deeper.

How to Create a Spiritual Board

Ready to make your own? Here’s what you’ll need:

  • A board (cork, poster, canvas—or even a journal page)

  • Mr. Pen highlighters, pens, sticky notes, and markers

  • Scripture verses that resonate with your season

  • Images or phrases that reflect what God is growing in you

  • Optional: washi tape, stickers, magazine clippings

Step-by-step, here’s how I made mine:

  1. Start with Prayer
I asked, “Lord, what do You want to teach me in this season?” And He kept bringing me to John 15—“Abide in Me.”

  2. Choose a Theme
For me, it was spiritual fruit—not striving, but surrender. Not doing, but being with God.

  3. Gather Visuals and Scriptures
Everything I placed on my board pointed back to one theme: abiding.

  4. Worship While You Create
I played worship music and invited the Holy Spirit into the process. It was such a beautiful, peaceful time.

Why This Matters

This isn’t just about crafting something pretty—it’s about meeting with God.

You gain:

  • Deeper connection with Jesus: You’re asking Him what He’s doing in your life right now.

  • Clarity and focus: Instead of feeling scattered, your heart is anchored in truth.

  • Spiritual growth: Over time, you’ll see real fruit growing from your time with Him.

Most of all, it becomes a sacred space—not just a decoration, but a visual act of surrender that says:

“Lord, here I am. Make me more like You.”

Final Thoughts

Thank you so much for spending time with me today. 🥹 If you end up creating your own spiritual board, we’d love to see it! Be sure to tag us—we want to celebrate what God is doing in your life.
