Hi everyone! My name is Amy, and I’m a proud Mr. Pen partner. I’m so excited to tell you about something really special happening right now—our annual Mr. Pen Challenge!
This year’s theme is Spirit of Freedom, and it’s all about spending intentional time in God’s Word during the season of Lent. Mr. Pen was founded by Christians who are passionate about seeing their community grow in their relationship with Christ, and this challenge is a beautiful way to do that together.
What Is the Mr. Pen Challenge?
The challenge encourages you to dive deeper into your Bible studies, get creative with your journaling, and share your journey online. When you post photos of your Bible study and use the hashtag #MrPenChallenge, you’ll be entered to win weekly prizes and be in the running for an incredible grand prize at the end of the challenge.
And here’s something even more meaningful: Every time you enter, Mr. Pen will donate $1 to New Hope Girls, an amazing ministry based in the Dominican Republic. This organization fights against trafficking, abuse, and exploitation. They provide rescue, refuge, and long-term healing for girls, walking with them through their faith journey.
So while you're spending time with the Lord, you're also directly supporting a powerful cause.
What Can You Win?
Our weekly prizes include:
-
The Mr. Pen Pink Journaling Kit
-
A New Hope Girls Pencil Pouch
And the grand prize? An all-expenses-paid 6-day trip to Greece for two!
You’ll walk in the footsteps of the Apostle Paul with a guided 3-day tour through Athens, Corinth, and Patmos.
The challenge kicks off March 5 and runs through April 17. Winners will be announced on April 30.
Grab your journals, open your Bibles, and let’s fill social media with God’s Word. Tag your friends, spread the Word, and don’t forget to use #MrPenChallenge. We can’t wait to see what you create!
Getting Started with Bible Journaling
If you're new to Bible journaling or not sure where to begin, don’t worry—I've been there too. The first step is simply finding the right materials. For me, the fun starts with picking colors. Mr. Pen has so many amazing Bible journaling kits, and you can find them all on their website.
Today I’m using a pastel color palette with the beige transparent sticky notes and some washi tape (although I’m still not 100% sure if I’m pronouncing that right 😅).
Bible journaling is different for everyone, so don’t feel like you have to follow one specific method. It’s okay to experiment and find what works best for you. My style might not be your style—and that’s perfectly okay.
My Favorite Tools in the Kit
This kit comes with the cutest cross-shaped paper clips—I’ve never seen anything like them and I’m kind of obsessed.
To get started, I decided to create a simple color-coding system for the book of James. I found inspiration on Pinterest and will tweak it as I go. Pinterest is full of Bible journaling and verse art ideas, so if you’re stuck or want inspiration, it’s a great place to look.
Sometimes I’m tempted to highlight the whole page because—honestly—the Word of God is just so good. It’s worth spending time in, digging deep, and asking the Lord for understanding. Once you begin to grasp the beauty of the Bible, there’s no turning back.
Why I Love Transparent Sticky Notes
To be honest, I don’t love my handwriting, and writing directly in my Bible can feel so permanent. That’s why I love using sticky notes—especially the transparent ones. They’re thinner than regular sticky notes, don’t bulk up your Bible, and you can still see the words underneath. The size is just right, too—they fit perfectly in the margins of my Bible.
Tips for Bible Journaling
You can be as creative as you want. Highlight what stands out to you. Write questions. Reflect on what confuses you. This process will help you understand Scripture more deeply and memorize key verses. Most importantly, it’s an opportunity to learn more about who God is and how He works in our lives.
It really is a gift that we have access to the Bible. Its lasting impact is a testament to God's grace—how else could it still be the bestselling book of all time?
In the past, I’ve used a lot of pens that claimed to be “Bible-safe” but bled through the pages. Mr. Pen’s highlighters don’t bleed, and I appreciate that so much.
Final Thoughts
My encouragement to you: take notes, highlight what speaks to your heart, and if you want to try color-coding—go for it! Draw, reflect, and pray. And don’t be afraid to change your mind. I actually decided mid-way that washi tape wasn’t for me that day, so I switched it out. That’s another reason I love sticky notes—they give you the freedom to change things up.
I hope this gave you a little inspiration on how to begin your own Bible journaling journey. It doesn’t need to be complicated. I like to keep things simple—that’s what works for me.
