Happy International Women’s Day from Mr. Pen!
Tuesday, March 8 is International Women’s Day! This international holiday has been celebrated for over a century, with a focus on uplifting women through philanthropy and collaboration.
What an important day to mark in our calendars and celebrate together!
The History of International Women’s Day
The history of Women’s Day goes back more than a hundred years. On this day, we commemorate the suffragists who, way back in 1908, marched in New York City in support of equal rights for women.
In the following years, the Conference of Working Women met in Copenhagen, Denmark, to discuss gender-based inequality throughout the world. In 1911, the conference declared that International Women’s Day would be celebrated in March.
That year, International Women’s Day was recognized in Austria, Denmark, Germany, and Switzerland, and over a million people attended rallies and marches to advocate for things like fair wages, women’s suffrage, and an end to legal discrimination.
In the past 110 years, there have been many changes in the circumstances that women around the world face. Countless countries now celebrate this important day as we continue to work towards equality and justice for all.
IWD's 2022 Theme
Every year, IWD chooses a theme so that we can focus our attention on a specific need, goal, or idea.
This year, the theme is: #BreakTheBias.
Imagine a gender equal world. A world free of bias, stereotypes and discrimination. A world that's diverse, equitable, and inclusive. A world where difference is valued and celebrated. Together we can forge women's equality. Collectively we can all #BreakTheBias.
How to Get Involved
If you want to get involved in this year’s International Women’s Day, there are many ways you can do so!
The official IWD Website includes numerous resources for getting involved, including:

3) Create a #ChooseToChallenge video
Executives, organizations, and companies can get involved, too! Executives and influencers can make supportive statements online, and you can also bring in talented women speakers to address your employees and volunteers. You can even support women-owned businesses through IWD’s list of vendors!
